The book I never wanted to write

The irony that my debut novel, Happily Never Afterlife, is a romcom is not lost on me. It’s the type of book I never wanted to write. Ever. In fact, I refused to write the assigned romantic comedy short story for a competition I paid money to participate in. I never wanted to write about love. Now it’s the subject of my first book. Life’s a cruel bitch sometimes.  To be honest, my life has not been the best picture of what love should look like. I am envious of the people who find it so early in their lives.…

Get out of my head! Taking the voices and putting them on the page

There are times when I feel like I am going insane. I usually have a running narration in my head that expresses all of my innermost thoughts. When I am working on my creative projects, suddenly my designated narrator in my noggin isn’t the only voice I hear.  I feel like other authors out there will understand me when I say that my characters talk to me. At times, it can be nonstop! Especially when I am in the brainstorming process and generating ideas for whatever new project I’ve got up my sleeve.  The characters ultimately determine which project I…

No more writing from me. I quit!

I think that it’s time I finally close the laptop for good. It’s time that I announce to you that I am hanging up my pen and I am quitting writing. Forever.  That’s right. I quit!  You see, with the rise of Artificial Intelligence, I’ve come to realize that these AI bots are clearly superior in creating stories than I will ever be able to. They can generate stories that I could never dream of! Mainly because those dreams AI syphons from are not just my own but from every other author that has ever existed. But hey! These little…

The Muse of Music: Finding inspiration through song

Everyone who knows me knows that I have the soul of a Broadway star but the vocal talents of a seagull. I absolutely love music! I just don’t possess the talent for it. That doesn’t mean I don’t engage with music in my own way.  Like many other writers out there, I am not the first to admit that music is one of my ultimate muses. It’s a creative lubricant that gets those brain juices flowing! Sometimes a lyric hits you and inspires an entire fictional world. It’s amazing!  Music has been the driving force for every novel I have…

What’s in the works? A look at my upcoming projects

Something about me to know: there are always multiple projects I’m juggling. I wish there could be one project at a time, but that’s just not how my brain works. It craves the chaos of multiple storylines, characters, and universes.  That might be why it takes so long for me to finish a project. As soon as I start on one project, a new idea pops into my head, and I have to flesh it out, and then another, and another. The well of creativity is always overflowing! It’s a blessing and a curse. I don’t have enough hours in…

Unraveling the Chaos: How I Write

Writing is my passion, but it’s also a major pain in the ass. I’m sure many other writers would agree with that statement. It’s something we love, but it’s not always easy.  It can be really hard to get the words to flow. Creative constipation is very, very real. Yet we still choose to create, and I love that about us creative folks. Despite the frustrations, we soldier on and produce stories we are proud of.  Everyone sees the final project. That book on the shelf with the pretty cover. The words inside that make you laugh and cry. What…

Welcome to My New Blog: Behind The Page!

Hello folks! I am so excited to announce that I am starting up a weekly blog on my website. Welcome to Behind The Page! This is where I plan to talk about all things writing and what inspires my stories. I thought this would be a great way to expand on my passions for those who are interested in learning more about me as an author and what makes my head tick. Consider this a “behind the scenes” where I pull back the veil to go deeper into the writing process.  I’m no stranger to blogging. I began writing columns…
