About

Jessica Marrone is a writer of the creepy and the fantastical embarking on her journey as an author of short stories and novels.

After leaving behind her photojournalism career after a decade of awards and accolades for her photography and reporting, Marrone set her sights on establishing her blog, Life is a Jess, and becoming a full time writer. In her blog, Marrone discusses the trials and tribulations of life as a 20something living with Rheumatoid Arthritis and a love of dogs in a real, down-to-earth tone infused with her special brand of humor.

During 2020, Marrone spent time penning her first two book projects while in the Covid-19 lockdowns. In that time, Marrone wrote her memoir, Meet My Rheummate, that is planned to be released later in 2021. The touching story chronicles the decade Marrone has battled Rheumatoid Arthritis and the life lessons she’s gathered along the way. Filled with humor and heartbreak, Meet my Rheummate is a one-of-a-kind memoir for the chronically ill community.

Writing one book wasn’t enough for Marrone in 2020, however, as she quickly jumped into crafting her first novel, a young adult fantasy centering around a guardian angel and the aftermath that befalls her when she breaks her sacred oath. She plans to release her debut novel in the fall/winter 2021.

Taking a break from writing long form fiction, Marrone has focused on developing her craft as a short story author as one of her New Year’s resolutions. Her stories often feature the paranormal and supernatural as she explores what it means to be human.

She is currently participating in the 15th Annual NYC Midnight Short Story Challenge where her story, Rosie, was submitted. She is also a member of Vocal where she plans to upload more original content including short stories and personal essays.

Marrone lives in Georgia with her rescue dog Lucy who hates socializing and physical activity as much as her. In her spare time, Marrone enjoys falling down the YouTube rabbit hole, discussing the politics of Restoration era England, creating digital art portraits of dogs, and collecting red lipsticks to wear once the pandemic ends.
